TUTORING

GRADES K-12 Bookworm Tutors specializes in students in grades K-12. In order for students to be successful in their tutoring, a Barton student must:

  • Be at least 5 years old and in kindergarten.

  • Can speak and comprehend spoken English.

  • Have an IQ of 71 or higher.

  • Struggles with spelling when writing stories and cannot easily sound out unknown words when reading.

  • Can pass our Barton Student Screening.

TUTORING SCHEDULE Bookworm Tutors offers year-round, one-on-one private tutoring. All learning is done in-person (or online) and there is no homework for students.

We offer easy online scheduling for students. Come for tutoring before and after school, weekends, no school days, and spring, summer and winter breaks.

For students to achieve their maximum level of success in the Barton program, they need a minimum of two 60-minute tutoring sessions per week, year-round. One session per week is not intense enough to make an impact. This is the minimum amount of instruction time required that provides the frequency and intensity needed to close the skills gap. This time is imperative to the success of your student and is the number one predictor of success in Barton.

HOW LONG WILL THE PROGRAM TAKE? With private, one-on-one tutoring, lessons are provided at precisely the right pace for each student. No two people with dyslexia learn at exactly the same pace, so we can only provide an estimate as to how long the program will take.

The Barton system will bring students to adult reading, spelling, and basic writing levels. Adult level in the U.S. is equivalent to mid-9th grade.

If a student has classic dyslexia (also called moderate dyslexia) and has two 60-minute tutoring sessions each and every week, year-round in a one-on-one setting, it will take two to three years to complete the Barton system.

Students with mild dyslexia may complete the Barton system a bit faster, while students with more severe dyslexia may need four to five years.

The only way a student can make faster progress is to be tutored more often. If a student can be tutored three or four times a week, they’ll complete the Barton system much faster.

TUTORING RATE Weekly tuition is $270 for two 60-minute tutoring sessions. All sessions are private and one-on-one. This includes all instruction, supplies and materials. All learning is done in-person (or online) and there is no homework for students.

Payment is required in advance for the upcoming week of tutoring. We accept personal check, debit, credit and ACH (electronic transfer) payments. Please note, Barton tutoring sessions are typically not covered by healthcare insurance.
